IV: Falling Down Alex lost his parents in a plane crash where his mother sent him and his brother plumetting down the sky with the only parachute available. As they hit the ground Scott injured himself, and Alex was spared from harm thanks to his brother awakening his X-Gene at the time of the fall, using his optic beam as means to cushion the drop. The brothers were sent to the State Home for Foundlings, an orphanage in Nebraska, where they were under Dr. Milbury's care. Despite his lack of memories from his stay in the orphanage, Alex left experiencing night terrors and displaying a volatile behavior. Still, unlike Scott, he was adopted and taken by his new family to Honolulu. Alex was raised by Andrew and Joanna Blanding, whose son Todd had been killed in a car accident the same year they set out to find the orphan boy, and whose role Alex was pressured to take. Refusing to act as a replacement for their son, and one of the few non-natives of the city, the young Summers did not have an easy life, but seemed to embrace the fights and deliquency more than any of the unhealthy pattern of affection in his own home. It all came to a head when the man responsible for the death of Todd, Vincent, also kidnapped his foster sister, Haley. Wasting no time, Alex went after the girl and in the altercation with the man he awakened his X-Gene, incinerating Vincent instantly. While Haley swore not to tell, the cops still considered Alex a prime suspect, even if they could not connect the gruesome death with the adopted Blanding boy. Although there were rumors, nobody in town could prove Alex Blanding was, in fact, one of the surging mutants. V: Wreaking Havok Not long later, however, the files of his case were sent to a growing database within the government that accounted for these nigh-supernatural occurrences, all under the umbrella of the budding Project Armageddon. Weeks later, and in the dead of night, Alex was accosted by the Mk. I Sentinels who easily took the young man into custody, as the young mutant lacked any control over his plasma powers. Taken to one of the isles of Hawaii where these models were developed, the Blanding kid was rescued by the combined efforts of Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman and Marvel Girl, all students of Professor X, who offered Alex a place in his school for talented young youngsters such as him. The family reunion was not all what neither Summers had expected, as both Alex and Scott had changed much since their last time together, the memories of the orphanage still bringing with them feelings of mild panic. While Scott had become a withdrawn boy with a myriad of confidence issues, Alex was just as vulnerable within but behaved like a hot-headed maverick. The two clashed often, but there was still enough fraternity among them even if Alex was the last to buy into Xavier's idea for a better world among the first students. Together with the others he trained in the use of his powers at the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, after which he became Havok. Despite his good times with the other X-Men, and the bonds he forged with them, Alex' life would change forever after the captivity in Krakoa. The helplessness felt in that situation took Havok back to the orphanage, and the trauma suffered there. Those feelings led him to leave the X-Men to roam the country for a while, avoiding his past and his feelings, protecting mutants around the USA from the growing radicalism of the Purifiers and Friends of Humanity. VI: Walking On The Other Side When Emperor D'ken tracked his fugitive sister Lilandra Neranami to Earth, Polaris and Havok were chosen as the best Earth fighters to take down the allies of the runaway royal, given their ties with the X-Men and the trust they had built with the Westchester team. The two were captured and brainwashed into servitude and sent after the X-Men, who they would intercept as they landed in New York to visit Jean and the Charles at the young model's flat. Together, Havok and Polaris battled the X-Men at the Kennedy Airport while others attacked Phoenix and the Professor directly. The damages were catastrophic and many headlines were taken by Polaris' herself, whose powers were too similar to Magneto to slip notice. Havok, on the other hand, displayed an array of highly destructive blasts which, although made him a feared mutant, did not create the same catchy headlines as the 'Mistress of Magnetism.' That was not to say that Alex hadn't attracted the attention of a certain group with his furious display of mutant might. As the young man lay recovering in the hospital, he was approached by a Hank. Not Hank, the one he knew, but another, older and far stranger version of his friend. Still sharp of mind and eloquent, this Dark Beast informed Alex that in another life the two of them were good friends, and that the good doctor even owed his life to the powerful Summers boy. To honor that, Dark Beast informed Havok that if he ever wanted to truly know the origins of the Summers family, he should visit the State Home for Foundlings once more. VII: A Guardian Angel Most Sinister Always the driven man, Alex followed the trail back to the now-abandoned orphanage, his voyage interrupted often by bounty hunters and mutants who had been contracted by a man called Sinister to take out Havok down. Each of them was left by the wayside as Havok closed into his destination, but the X-Man would never reach the orphanage. Not before Project Wideawake was activated, and Havok saw himself surrounded by Mk. III Sentinels. As hard and well as the X-Man could fight, the size and sheer upgrades in comparison with the first two models almost overwhelmed Alex, but in the nick of time, the man was saved by a band calling itself the Marauders. Claiming to have been paid by Sinister as well, they were there to make sure Alex would be safe from the human machines, and invited to meet with the mysterious mutant himself. As she was offered meeting place, Havok took it and went on his way. This journey would take Alex Summers to a quaint little place called Bar Sinister. VIII: Journey Into Madness His time with Sinister, and the man's many assistants, at Bar Sinister was revealing to say the least. Where he was hoping to find an austere mastermind what Alexander found instead was an island inhabited not by a single person, but by a man-virus, a mutant whose existence had become something far too detached from humanity. Sinister had clones of himself for everything, bred with the specific talent for a very narrow function, singers and butlers, dancers and accountants, all him and yet also less. He learned that in his pursue for genetic mastery, the man had dropped many of the limitations and mores of what any modern person would consider 'decent', but one characteristic shocked Havok above all: in his zeal to protect both Alex and Scott, Sinister considered himself their father, as he explained the two of them, and thier brother to be the final stage of the Summers bloodline, his most precious creation. Stay at Bar Sinister revealed to Alex that both him and his brother were children of something called the Black Womb Project, made to develop the most powerful mutant bloodlines. It revealed his genetic material was perfect and that his child had the potential to be the most powerful homo superior in existence, a child Sinister hoped would come about sooner rather than later for his own reasons. Sinister seemed to have many answers, even for things Havok never knew he wanted to know about, but soon the adoring genemaestro revealed one of the reasons he had beckoned the X-Man to him: he needed a favor. Usually, Alex would have never worked with anyone a fraction as shady as Sinister, but there was too much at stake, especially at the reveal he and Scott might have a brother lost somewhere. As explained by Sinister, while his Marauders fixed a copyright issue elsewhere, he would appreciate if Havok investigated another matter of royalties in an island named Genosha. IX: The Legacy of the Prelate Alex infiltrated the nation of Genosha and immediately knew there was something rotten about it. The injections given to him by Sinister allowed Havok to stay undetected by the scans around the city and the Magisters, enough so that Alex was seen as a human as he watched what had become of the mutants in Genosha, groveling trash collectors and mine workers. With the help of his benefactor's technology, he followed the trail of the origins of the mutates, but as he started to learn about the Genengineer the man stumbled upon a young woman called Jennifer Ransome, a mutant citizen on the run. Although Jennifer did not speak much of her past, Alex couldn't help but feel empathy for her, as the girl seemed paranoid and afraid, scared beyond belief. He did not pry excessively, but learned Jennifer was a mutant, and that as determined by Genoshan law, she was to go through the mutate bonding process to become part of the mutate workforce. She would lose her free will, her powers, and she would never reproduce, all in name of progress. He vowed to protect the girl until they got her out of the country, even if her presence was not hidden by Sinister's tricks as Havok's was. THe end result was a desperate escape that ended with Jennifer being smuggled out of the coutnry, and Havok staying behind, captured. The last thing he would hear before his memory got wiped and he got forcefully inducted into the ranks of the Magisters was the Genengineer talking to some one else, this other person mentioning they had in their hands the 'Prelate Summers himself, an Alpha-class mutant specimen beyond compare'. Under the control of Genosha, Alex was forced to betray the X-Men and lead the Magistrates in a mission to cripple the last standing mutant organization in the world, and capture the entity known as Warlock for their leader, the lunatic cyborg Cameron Hodge. Although Warlock would be captured, during the assault on the Xavier's School Havok managed to hold back enough to not kill any of the present mutants. Eventually, it was all the opportunity some of them needed to take him down, as Cannonball, Professor X and Karma worked in tandem to take Alex down. Although Alex was left behind in the medbay as Cable led the X-Men to Genosha, healing from the battle, and missed most of the fight in the island, his participation in the conflict there was not done yet. As Cameron Hodge was defeated in Genosha, and Magneto arrived to continue the battle against the Magistrates, Havok joined him. Aware of the Magistrates powers, strategies and numbers, Alex became the second in command to the Master of Magnetism in his Genoshan Brotherhood, and out of guilt and duty to his fellow X-Men, Havok did his very best to ride the line between the anger he felt towards the Genoshan elite and keeping the morality of the mutant host in accordance to Charles' standards. He and Exodus were at each other's throats often, but in the end, Havok and the X-Men assisted Magneto in taking Carrion Cove and liberate Genosha from the darkness that had befallen it. Once the war was done, however, Alex couldn't return home just yet. There was just too much there that remained a mystery to him. X: The Wars To Come As the dust settled, Alex decided to stay behind and help the nation rebuild, as well as help all the mutates gain a semblance of a normal life after what had been visited upon them. Although Sinister remained in the back of his mind, the X-Man in Havok felt compelled to help these mutants who had so much violence inflicted upon them, as well as investigate the voice that he heard interacting with the Genengineer before his brainwashing. His search yielded results as he interrogated the captured Magistrates, as rumors always pointed to a secret associate of the Genengineer that was able to solve even the most puzzling genetic myteries of the mutants captured to mold them into the perfect slaves. While most avoided talking of this figure, even in confessions, one gave Havok a moniker he could search for: the Sugar Man. After a grueling process that took Havok a while, he finally found the creature, deep underneath the ruins of Carrion Cove. Although at first cordial, the Sugar Man soon revealed himself to be as odious as any mutant who would help the likes of the Genengineer do what he did, and maybe even moreso. In the pens of his laboratory he held live mutants, and Havok had seen enough of it. The battle that followed had the creature mockingly accusing Havok of holding back, of using his powers like a scared baby, goading the younger Summers into going harder, digging deeper, 'act like a fucking Prelate'. Alex' temper eventually did get the better out of him, as he blasted the Sugar Man without holding anything back, turning the creature into ash. The Sugar Man seemingly decimated, Havok proceeded to search the laboratory, something so advanced he had only seen anything comparable in the Danger Room, if so. Havok would not have much time to to search the place, not before it hit. Although he was in Carrion Cove, the impact of it was felt in the whole island, as the Wild Sentinel hit the Genoshan soil. The power discharge alone fried the computers of the Sugar Man's lab, crumbling its foundations, but not before Alex learned that somehow the Sugar Man was an invader from another dimension, one where Apocalypse came to rule the United States, the first of many to come to their world. As he left the labs, he would do so with a survivors of such an future, the young Blink. In the horizon, the smoke that rose from Genosha would give Alex nightmares for months to come, as he realized that although he had been running away his whole life, it was time to go back to his family. It was time to go home.
