Mosaics

Nobody on Krakoa knows the whole story, and as with all things, mutants must rely on each other to piece together their myths. Each of them have are pieces: a moment they lived through (or plucked from someone else's mind), a file they read, a secret someone let slip. Put enough of the right pieces together and the picture comes clear.

The lore of Way of Krakoa is scattered in every mutant around the game, but rarely whole. Those are called Fragments, and each Fragment has their own set that, when assembled, paints the picture of a Mosaic, the larger story that Fragment is a part of.

Your character either holds a Fragment or they don't. Every Fragment belongs to one Mosaic, at a set place in its story. Each Mosaic tells a complete story of one aspect of the world, its characters, philosophies, and culture. Every Fragment you hold uncovers its share of it, and the rest stays blacked out. Hold every Fragment of a Mosaic and it's complete: the revelation is yours.

Fragments

A Fragment is the smallest piece of the world's lore your character can come to know: a scene they witnessed, a document they read, a secret somebody told them. Each one has a name and a passage of text, and every Fragment belongs to exactly one Mosaic, at a fixed place in its story (the 1st, the 2nd, the 3rd...). Until your character holds a Fragment, they do not know that specific part of the setting.

Some Fragments are public: common knowledge everyone in the setting is assumed to know. Every character holds them from the start, so there's nothing to find or teach, and anyone can read them here.

Coming to Hold One

There are two ways a Fragment ends up in your character's head:

Finding it yourself. Your character is there when it happens, digs up the file, overhears the conversation. Fragments found firsthand show on the sleeve as discovered firsthand. Pending Investigation and Combat rewards etc.

Being taught it. Any character who holds a Fragment can teach it to another character standing in the same room. Teaching costs the teacher some Plasticity that goes towards progressing their Bond with the target, but they do not lose their Fragment. Teaching needs a reason, in character, which the whole room sees and which stays on record with the Fragment: you'll see who taught you and why.

@mosaic/teach <fragment> = <character>, <reason>
e.g. @mosaic/teach Shaw's Rise = Hope, because she needs to know what she's walking into

You can only teach a Fragment you actually hold, and a character can only come to hold each Fragment once.
